Chapter1: Her Husband's Mistress

"Madam, you've been waiting for several hours. I'm afraid he won't be coming back."

"It's alright, I'll wait."

After three years of marriage, she wanted to properly celebrate their wedding anniversary.

However, her husband was making headlines with another woman.

#WorldClassCouple! Edward Williams personally greets Lucy Taylor at the airport, so sweet!

Lucy is her husband's first love.

The entire world was rallying behind her husband, urging him to win back his childhood sweetheart, Lucy's heart.

Yet, these supporters were unaware that Edward was already married to her.

She desperately dialed his number repeatedly, but each call only met the cold, indifferent tone of a switched-off phone.

Finally, Edward did not show up, but a nurse from the hospital called.

"Miss Smith, your grandmother's condition is not good. Please come quickly."

The nurse sounded anxious, and the sound of her voice made Emily tremble.

Emily put on a coat and grabbed her car keys and rushed out.

She ran countless red lights on the way to the hospital, and when she arrived, her hands were shaking.

She was picked up from a garbage dump by her grandmother, and for her, her grandmother was her only relative.

Her grandmother was still in the emergency room, and Emily anxiously asked the nurse, "What happened? Wasn't my grandmother fine yesterday?"

"I...I don't know," the nurse explained quickly. "Miss Smith, you know me, I have always taken care of your grandmother with all my heart and soul."

"Was there anything unusual before my grandmother got sick?"

"Yes, today a Miss Taylor came by."

Miss Taylor?

Lucy Taylor!

With a loud bang, Emily's head buzzed, and she shivered all over.

Lucy had no reason to come and see her grandmother if they had no connection.

Emily forced herself to calm down and asked, "Do you know what she said to my grandmother?"

"The door was closed at the time, and I was outside. I only heard her say that she was going to get married to someone. Later, your grandmother and her had a few arguments. After Miss Taylor came out, I went to see your grandmother, and she had already collapsed..."

Emily clenched her fists and leaned against the wall with all her strength, trembling with anger.

She had always reported only good news to her grandmother, afraid that her grandmother would find out about Lucy and Edward.

But Lucy had come to the door directly!

The light in the emergency room was on, and the doctor came out.

Her heart suddenly pounded.

The doctor took off his mask and said tiredly, "The patient had acute cerebral congestion, probably due to some kind of stimulation. Please accept my condolences."

She had thought of a thousand possibilities, but never thought of losing her.

The doctor's words were like steel wires strangling her heart, and she struggled to walk to the bedside.

The only person who had been good to her was now covered with a white sheet and separated from her forever.

A huge sorrow enveloped her, and she couldn't even cry. She grabbed her grandmother's cold hand and kept recalling the warm memories of her grandmother in her mind. Now, all those warm memories had turned into heavy hammers, pounding on her heart, making it hard for her to breathe.

She choked and sobbed, covering her mouth and slowly crouching down against the wall.

She didn't know how long it had been when a familiar voice woke her up.

"Emily."

She slowly looked up.

The person who came was imposing and handsome.

"It's you..."

She murmured to herself, her eyes empty. "Grandma is gone..."

Her only relative had left her.

She was wearing thin pajamas, hiding in the corner, like an abandoned child.

Edward's throat was dry, and he slowly crouched down. "If your grandmother were still here, she wouldn't want to see you like this."

Emily's heart was empty.

Some pain was deep in her bones, and even if she took deep breaths, she couldn't ease the tension and anxiety in her heart.

She numbly watched Edward take care of everything for her. It wasn't until they arrived at the funeral home that she finally regained some strength.

On the first night of the vigil, an unexpected guest arrived.

Lucy was dressed in black and carrying a wreath as she walked in.

This was the first time Emily had seen her.

In person, she was even more beautiful than on TV. Her long black hair fell straight down to her waist like flowing water, and her delicate features were small and exquisite. Especially her eyes, black and pure, radiated an innocent and charming feeling.

She walked up to Emily and said in a clear voice, "Miss Smith, please accept my condolences."

Emily thought of what the nurse had said.

Her grandmother suddenly fell ill, did Lucy have nothing to do with it?

At the moment Lucy turned around, Emily hoarsely called out to her, "Miss Taylor."

"The nurse said that you went to see my grandmother on the day she died."

Lucy stood still, her movements a little awkward.

Emily's voice remained unchanged. "Miss Taylor and my grandmother didn't know each other. Why did you go to see her?"

Lucy looked innocent. "What do you mean?"

"I want to know, what did Miss Taylor say to my grandmother?"

"I had my friend from abroad video call your grandmother and asked about her condition. I didn't say anything else." Lucy pouted, looking wronged. "I just wanted to help your grandmother."

"Help her?" Emily laughed softly. "You two didn't know each other. My grandmother had an accident on the day you went to see her. I don't think you wanted to help her. You wanted to harm her, didn't you?"

"I asked her to go."

Edward walked over, his voice low, his eyes deep as a pool of ink. "Lucy's friend is good at tumor surgery and is famous abroad."

"It's okay, Edward. She just lost a loved one, and I understand her emotions." Lucy's soft body leaned towards him, tears shimmering in her eyes. "As long as I can make her feel a little better, I'm willing to apologize."

"Don't think too much, it's just a coincidence." Edward comforted her in a calm voice, looking at Emily. "I arranged for her to go. If you want to blame someone, blame me."

Emily's face was pale, and she struggled to maintain her trembling body.

She pinched her cold fingers and bit her lip.

The man she had loved for years was now firmly sheltering someone else from the wind and rain.

"Blame you? How could I dare to blame you..." She smiled bitterly, shaking her head. Her eyes, which had already dried up, turned red.

Upon seeing her like this, Edward furrowed his brows. “You look exhausted. I'll have someone take you to rest.”

“No need.” She forced herself to stand up, her lips turning white.

Lucy's two pure and clear black eyes darted around, her cherry lips moving as she spoke each word with a crisp tone that fell on the other's ears. “If you suspect that I killed your grandmother, you can report me to the police and have them investigate.”

Investigate?

She had already reported to the police, but they said that the surveillance was damaged and there wasn't enough evidence, so the case was dismissed. When they heard Lucy's name, they told her to give up. This only confirmed her conviction that Lucy was the culprit.

How coincidental was it that the surveillance was perfectly fine the day before? It was obviously tampered with on that particular day. She knew the Taylor family was powerful, and that she alone would never be able to acquire the evidence she needed. Nonetheless, she refused to give up hope that she would eventually uncover the truth.

“Lucy, as they say, what goes around comes around. The day will come when you'll have to pay for your actions.”

“Emily!” Edward glared at her with a piercing gaze, an icy chill emanating from him. “Please watch your words.”
